prep action continues in the 2021 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, January 30. The $200,000 contest is the last of
five graded stakes races on the program.
#8 Sittin On Go
(5-1) makes his 2021 debut here. The son of Brody’s Cause was the winner of the
Iroquois Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs in September, but ran ninth in the
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. He was only beaten five lengths in the Grade 2 Ketucky
Jockey Club Stakes over this 1 1/16-mile distance. Dale Romans trains the colt,
who will have Corey Lanerie up.
Honour (5-2) took four tries to break his maiden, but has never been worse than
third. He was a strong winner over this trip last out under Luis Saez, but
picks up Jose Ortiz for this. Shug McGaughey trains the son of Tapit, who
figures to just keep getting better.
#6 Prime Factor
(3-1) debuted December 12 for trainer Todd Pletcher and made it a good one. The
$900,000 son of Quality Road rolled by nearly nine lengths. That was over just
six furlongs, but he has had a steady stream of bullet workouts at Palm Beach
Downs to prep for this. Irad Ortiz, Jr keeps the mount.
#4 Amount (6-1)
was also a debut winner for Pletcher. The son of Curlin won here December 26,
scoring by nearly six lengths in a seven-furlong contest. There is nothing but
upside for this colt out of a Pulpit mare, who should reslih the distance.
Gerry (8-1) was third in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes last out. That one-mile
race is the prep for this, and the son of Liam’s Map was beaten less than three
lengths. Tyler Gaffalione will be up for Saffie Joseph, Jr. This colt was
stakes placed at Delta Downs in November and ran fourth in the Nyquist at
Keeneland. He broke his maiden here over five furlongs last year.
Tarantino, Jirafales, undefeated Willy Boi, and stakes placed Papetu round out
the field. The Holy Bull is a stepping stone to the Grade 2 Fountain Of Youth
here in a month, followed by the rich Florida Derby (G1). Watch TVG for Kentucky Derby prep
race action every weekend.
